Solderability Testing

Solderability Testing for Component Terminations

Systemation Euro provides solderability testing for OEMs, distributors and contract electronics manufacturers who need confidence that component terminations will form reliable joints during assembly. Poor solderability is a common indicator of aged, reclaimed or counterfeit stock.

Our Solderability Testing Capabilities

Solderability testing verifies that terminations wet correctly, identifying oxidation, contamination and incorrect plating before parts reach your line.

Wetting Assessment

Terminations assessed for even, complete solder wetting against acceptance criteria.

Oxidation Detection

Identifies surface oxidation typical of long-stored or poorly handled stock.

Contamination Screening

Reveals residues and contaminants that prevent reliable joint formation.

Plating Verification

Incorrect or inadequate termination plating identified before assembly.

Reclaimed Part Indicators

Poor solderability is a strong indicator of components harvested from used assemblies.

Documented Findings

Results recorded per sample and supplied as part of your inspection evidence.

About Our Solderability Testing Process

Solderability testing assesses whether a component termination will accept solder and form a sound joint. Terminations are subjected to controlled solder contact and then examined for wetting coverage, evenness and any evidence of dewetting or non-wetting.

For counterfeit and quality screening this matters because solderability degrades with age, poor storage and reprocessing. Components that have been reclaimed from used assemblies, stored in uncontrolled conditions, or supplied outside the authorised distributor network frequently fail here even when they look correct externally.

It sits within a layered counterfeit component testing process and is particularly relevant alongside XRF analysis, which confirms what the termination finish is actually made of. Where components need re-finishing, our alloy conversion and re-tinning service can restore solderability.

Solderability testing verifies that a component’s terminations will accept solder and form a reliable joint during assembly. Terminations are subjected to controlled solder contact and assessed for wetting coverage and quality.

Usually oxidation, surface contamination, incorrect or degraded plating, or age. These are common in long-stored stock and in components reclaimed from used assemblies.

Not on its own, but it is a strong warning sign. Poor solderability frequently accompanies reclaimed or re-marked stock, so it is normally assessed alongside other counterfeit test methods.

Often yes. Our alloy conversion and re-tinning service can restore a usable termination finish where the underlying component is otherwise sound.

Yes. Results are recorded per sample and supplied as a written report suitable for your incoming inspection and audit records.
