XRF Analysis and Elemental Verification

XRF Testing for Counterfeit Detection and RoHS Verification

Systemation Euro provides X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF) analysis for OEMs, distributors and contract electronics manufacturers who need to confirm the elemental composition of component leads and terminations. XRF is non-destructive, so the batch stays intact and usable.

Our XRF Analysis Capabilities

XRF is normally the first analytical step after visual inspection. It confirms what a component is actually made of, without marking or damaging the part.

Elemental Composition

Lead and termination finishes analysed to confirm the alloy matches the manufacturer specification.

RoHS Verification

Confirms whether a component genuinely meets its stated RoHS compliance status.

Lead Substitution Detection

Identifies tin-lead finishes supplied as lead-free, and other substitutions common in counterfeit stock.

Plating Thickness Indication

Surface finish assessed for consistency across the batch and against known-good reference parts.

Batch Consistency Checks

Multiple parts sampled to reveal mixed-date-code or mixed-source batches.

Documented Results

Readings recorded per sample and supplied as part of your incoming inspection evidence.

Request a Sample Report

See exactly what you get back. Send your details and we will share a sample inspection report, plus pricing for your batch.

About Our XRF Analysis Process

X-Ray Fluorescence analysis works by exciting the atoms in a component’s surface with X-rays and measuring the characteristic energy they emit in return. Each element produces a distinct signature, so the technique gives a direct reading of elemental composition without cutting, heating or otherwise altering the part.

For counterfeit detection this matters because alloy composition is difficult to fake convincingly. A component re-marked as a lead-free part but carrying a tin-lead finish will be revealed immediately, as will substituted or non-conforming plating. It forms an early stage of a layered counterfeit component testing process.

Because XRF is non-destructive, it can be applied across a larger sample than methods such as decapsulation and die level analysis, and the tested parts remain available for production or for onward IC programming once verified.

X-Ray Fluorescence analysis measures the elemental composition of a component’s leads and terminations. X-rays excite the surface atoms, and the energy they emit identifies which elements are present and in what proportion.

No. XRF is entirely non-destructive. Components are returned intact and remain usable in production after testing.

Yes. XRF is the standard method for verifying whether a component genuinely meets its stated RoHS status, by confirming lead content in the termination finish.

It exposes lead substitution, incorrect plating, and alloy formulations that do not match the original manufacturer specification. Counterfeit and reclaimed parts frequently fail on finish composition.

Yes. Readings are recorded per sample and supplied as a written report suitable for your incoming inspection and audit records.
