External Visual Inspection

Visual Inspection for Counterfeit Component Detection

Systemation Euro provides external visual inspection for OEMs, distributors and contract electronics manufacturers. It is the first stage of any counterfeit screening programme, and a significant proportion of suspect parts are identified here before any analytical testing is needed.

Our Visual Inspection Capabilities

Systematic examination of markings, package condition and lead geometry against known-good reference samples and manufacturer datasheets.

Marking Examination

Logo, part number, date code and lot code checked for font, spacing, depth and placement.

Surface Condition

Package surface assessed for sanding, resurfacing, filling and texture inconsistency.

Lead and Terminal Condition

Leads checked for coplanarity, damage, oxidation and evidence of prior soldering.

Dimensional Checks

Package dimensions verified against the manufacturer datasheet.

Batch Consistency

Parts compared across the batch to expose mixed date codes and mixed sources.

Photographic Records

High-resolution images retained and supplied as part of your inspection evidence.

Request a Sample Report

See exactly what you get back. Send your details and we will share a sample inspection report, plus pricing for your batch.

About Our Visual Inspection Process

External visual inspection is a systematic examination of a component against known-good reference samples and the original manufacturer datasheet. Markings, surface finish, package geometry and lead condition are all assessed under magnification and recorded.

It is deliberately the first step in a counterfeit screening programme because it is fast, non-destructive and highly productive. Inconsistent fonts, incorrect logo placement, sanded or resurfaced package tops, mismatched date codes within a single batch and evidence of prior soldering on the leads are all visible here.

Findings from visual inspection determine which analytical methods are worth applying next, whether that is heated solvent testing to confirm suspected re-marking, XRF analysis to verify the termination finish, or X-ray inspection to examine internal construction. It forms the entry point to our layered counterfeit component testing process.

Non-Destructive

Components are returned intact and fully usable after testing, so the batch stays available for production.

Independent Inspection

Testing carried out independently of the supply chain, giving unbiased results for your incoming inspection records.

All work operated within our ISO 9001:2015 UKAS-accredited quality management system. Working towards AS9100 Rev D and AS6171.

Full Traceability

Incoming component records, test parameters and inspection findings maintained for every batch we handle.

Package Range

Visual inspection carried out across all common package types including SOIC, QFP, QFN, BGA and through-hole devices.

Same-Site Processing

Testing completed alongside programming, taping and reeling at the same Northampton facility. One supplier, one point of contact.

A systematic examination of a component’s markings, surface condition, package dimensions and lead condition against known-good references and the manufacturer datasheet, carried out under magnification.

No. Visual inspection is entirely non-destructive. Components are returned intact and remain usable in production.

Re-marking, sanding and resurfacing, incorrect package geometry, damaged or previously soldered leads, and mixed date codes within a batch.

It identifies a significant proportion of suspect parts, but sophisticated counterfeits can pass it. It is the first stage of a layered process, not a complete answer on its own.

Yes. High-resolution images and written findings are supplied, suitable for your incoming inspection and audit records.
